NEW DELHI: Prabhu Gaur Gopal Das, a former Electrical Engineer at the US-based technology giant Hewlett Packard, is one of the most popular Indian spiritual gurus. Gaur Gopal Das (IAST: Gaura-Gopāla dāsa; born 24 December 1973) is an Indian Internet celebrity, monk, motivational speaker and former electrical engineer. He is a member of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON).[1]
Early life and education
[edit]Gaur Gopal Das was born in Vambori town in Ahmadnagar District, Maharashtra, India. He has a diploma in electrical engineering from Cusrow Wadia Institute of Technology, Pune and a degree from College of Engineering, Pune.[2]
Career
[edit]He worked as an electrical engineer at Hewlett Packard for a brief period, before leaving the company in 1996 to become a monk.[3]
After a few years, he left his job and joined the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) as a monk, where he was given the name "Gaur Gopal Das".[4][5] He has remained there for twenty-two years, learning ancient philosophy and contemporary psychology, to become a life coach.[6]
