Dr. Julie Kent (born )[1] is a Professor of Sociology at the University of the West of England.[2]
Career
[edit]Kent obtained her Bachelors of Science in Sociology degree from the University of Bath in She then later graduated from the University of Bristol with a PhD in sociology in , and in became a professor of Sociology of Health Technology. Kent was a member of the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MRHA) Committee on Safety Devices and is now Chair of the University Research Ethics Committee at the University of the West of England.[3]
At the Stem Cell Ethics Workshop in London, Kent gave a lecture on ethics and regulations in the world of the fetus alongside Professor Naomi Pfeffer.[4]
In late , along with Dr. Maria Fannin from the University of Bristol, Kent won a grant from the Wellcome Trust to fund a research project into placental tissue.[5]

Julie Kent, Artistic Director of TWB since July , was the longest serving ballerina in American Ballet Theatre’s 77 year history. She began her dance training with Hortensia Fonseca at the Academy of the Maryland Youth Ballet in Bethesda, MD and attended summer sessions at American Ballet Theatre II and the School of American Ballet before joining American Ballet Theatre as an apprentice in In that same year, Kent won first place in the regional finals of the National Society of Arts and Letters at the Kennedy Center. In , she was the only American to win a medal at the Prix de Lausanne International Ballet Competition, and she became a member of ABT's corps de ballet.
She was appointed a Soloist with ABT in and a Principal Dancer in , the year in which she won the Erik Bruhn Prize in Toronto and was named one of People Magazine's "50 Most Beautiful People.” In April , Kent won the “Prix Benois de la Danse” and is the only American woman ever to have won this prize. In , she was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Performing Arts from the University of North Carolina School of the Arts as well as a “Lifetime Achievement Award” from Dance Magazine
